Mission

AAHAM’s mission is to be the premier professional organization in healthcare administrative services. Through a national organization and local chapters, we provide quality member services and leadership in the areas of education, communication, representation, professional standards and certification.

The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) understands your needs. We connect you with the resources that give you the competitive edge. And we do it in time-efficient and cost-effective ways that put you in touch with the expertise of your colleagues and the body of knowledge of your profession.

Education

AAHAM is dedicated to the professional development of its members. The Journal of Patient Account Management, annual Membership directory and Reference Manual, Annual National Institute, chapter seminars and workshops, technical certification program, and college scholarships offer numerous opportunities for increasing the skills and knowledge that are necessary to function effectively in today’s healthcare environment.

Certification

Among the many benefits of AAHAM membership is the means to achieve professional certification and carry the designation of Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) or Certified Clinic Account Manager (CCAM). To gain this important level of achievement, you must meet certain professional criteria and pass a comprehensive written examination. Certification by AAHAM signifies the highest level of professionalism in the field of healthcare receivables management.

Technical certification is offered to non-management personnel in hospital and medical business offices. Following successful completion of a standard examination, this self-study program leads to designation as a Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) or Certified Clinic Account Technician (CCAT).

Advocacy

AAHAM actively represents the interests of patient accounting professionals through a broad program of legislative and regulatory monitoring, issue management, and public awareness. This program include informing and alerting our members through the newsletters, Legislative Currents, rallying our nationwide network of legislative chairpersons to take action on public policy initiatives, and promoting awareness and recognition through national Patient Account Management Week.

AAHAM serves as the strongest advocate for patient accounting professionals.

Networking

The exchange of information and support between you and your colleagues is one of the most important benefits of being a member of AAHAM. Through face-to-face meetings like the Annual National Institute and local chapter seminars.

AAHAM members gain expanded knowledge and awareness through interaction with peers who have mutual interests and concerns.
