  • Initiates admission/registration by selecting the correct medical record number and entering patient demographic and insurance information into the clinical information system.  Reviews information for accuracy.
  • Registers and pre-registers outpatients or emergency department patients, inpatients, ambulatory patients, accurately and in accordance with hospital, payer, and governmental rules.
  • Greets patients upon their arrival, distributes patient information, when required, and directs patients to their appropriate testing area.
  • Obtains appropriate consents for treatment, including insurance referrals, forms and copies of insurance cards.
  • Explains hospital billing policies as outlined by the Patient Accounting Department.
  • Verifies physician’s orders for services.  For non-staff physicians documents physician’s name, address and medical license number.
  • Verbally verifies the name of the patient’s primary care physician. 
  • When appropriate, orders all tests via order entry function in the clinical information system.
  • Scans all documents into the document scanning application with attention to accuracy and legibility.
  • Collects self-pay deposits, co-payments and deductibles from patients.  Posts all patient payments into Meditech and provides patient/family member with receipt. 
  • Assist and provide patients who seek information on Financial Assistance
  • Utilizes available software programs to check for address verification, patient payment estimates.
  • Utilizes Medical Necessity Checking program for Medicare compliance, checking for diagnosis codes that correlate to testing ordered by physician.
  • Obtains consents for Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABN) when required by Medicare.
  • Functions in the capacity of Outpatient Receptionist, prioritizes the registration of patients, and coordinates referrals, physician orders and resolving patient inquires.
  • Appropriate utilization of integrated insurance eligibility checking system, internet and electronic insurance eligibility/verification components.
  • Utilize the AHIQA Registration Pop-Up window to identify each error documented within AHIQA.  Fix or dispute all identified errors in the Meditech Admissions Module within 24 hours of receiving the error(s).
  • Participates in training and orientation of new employees
  • Consistently promotes and participates as a team member.  Continuously extends assistance to colleagues.
  • When necessary, implements and utilizes downtime procedures.
  • Versed in disaster procedures/protocol.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.
